Children of the 80s will remember the outrageous and silly Garbage Pail Kids. Popular characters such as Farrah Flotsam, Sixty-Zit Zachery, and Creepy Cinthia captivated the imagination of children across the world. But did you know there was a game released to go along with them in 1987? Garbage Pail Kids: Mad Mike and the Quest For Stale Gum was released by Hash Enterprises as an NES title and it was unlike any game seen before.

In the Garbage Pail Kids game, players take on the role of Mad Mike in his mission to rid the world of stale gum and other undesirable items. As this is an NES title, the 8-bit graphics enforce a platforming motif with Mike having to negotiate his way around enemies and puzzles. In order to get rid of the gum, Mad Mike needs to search through each level and locate pieces of the gum in order to create a giant bubble gum bomb. Players can collect coins by jumping on top of enemies or find power-ups.

There is a wide variety of levels set in various places such as fast-food restaurants, parks, and even a space station. Players will come across a wide variety of enemies as well such as aliens, robots, and birds in order to stay ahead and defeat the evil baddies. Garbage Pail Kids: Mad Mike and the Quest for Stale Gum is still considered a cult classic and is generally enjoyed by those who play it.

In an attempt to bring the classic to a new audience, Hash Enterprises has released the title as a free download. It is available on PC and Mac and features updated graphics, improved music, and additional levels for players to tackle. The updated version of the game also includes a new mode called 2-player co-op, allowing two players to take on the gum-filled levels together. Garbage Pail Kids: Mad Mike and the Quest for Stale Gum is a great way for old and new fans alike to experience the classic NES title.
